BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA (Worthy News) – An Australian court has sentenced a 19-year-old, who was 17 at the time of the crime, to 14 years in prison for the murder of a British mother, a case that shocked the nation.

A judge on Monday found the boy guilty of murdering Emma Lovell almost 18 months ago near Brisbane, the capital of Australia’s northeastern state of Queensland.

Lovell and her husband Lee were stabbed by the boy who had broken into their North Lakes home, north of Brisbane, late on Boxing Day in 2022, investigators said.

The 41-year-old was wounded in the heart and died of her injury.

Earlier this month, the teen responsible faced a sentencing hearing in Brisbane after pleading guilty to several charges, including murder and malicious act with intent.

The Supreme Court heard the now 19-year-old had been in the company of another boy at the time, who is also facing charges but has not yet entered a plea.

The stabbing attack, which took place outside the home, was also captured on the family’s security camera system and played to a gallery packed with loved ones Lovell, including her two daughters, Australia broadcaster ABC noticed.

She had emigrated from Suffolk in 2011 with her daughters and her husband, Lee, who was also injured in the attack.

The offender, who cannot legally be named as he was 17 at the time, pleaded guilty to her murder earlier this year.
