Iran Defiant in the Face of G7 Statement Condemning Its Nuclear Program

(Worthy News) – In an apparent refusal to heed Western demands that Iran’s Islamic regime deescalates its nuclear program and halt all material support of Russia, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanaani has called on the Group of Seven (G7) world powers to cease their “destructive policies of the past,” Reuters reports.

During a summit in Italy last week, the G7 (an intergovernmental political and economic forum consisting of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States) issued a statement warning Tehran not to supply Russia with military assistance to attack Ukraine. In particular, the G7 warned Tehran not to supply Moscow with ballistic missiles.

“We reiterate our call on third parties to immediately cease providing material support to Russia’s illegal and unjustifiable war of aggression against Ukraine or face severe costs,” the G7 statement published on Friday reads.

“We are extremely concerned about reports that Iran is considering transferring ballistic missiles and related technology to Russia after having supplied the Russian regime with UAVs, which are used in relentless attacks against the civilian population in Ukraine,” the statement continues.

“Were Iran to proceed with providing ballistic missiles or related technology to Russia, we are prepared to respond swiftly and in a coordinated manner, including with new and significant measures against Iran.” the statement concludes.

Iran has shown no signs of conceding to Western demands. “Any attempt to link the war in Ukraine to the bilateral cooperation between Iran and Russia is an act with only biased political goals,” Kanaani said in his response to the G7 statement. Tehran is now enriching uranium to up to 60% purity, fast approaching the 90% purity required for weapons-grade, and has enough material enriched to that level, Reuters reports.
