(Worthy News) – Arizona’s Supreme Court ruled Wednesday that the term “unborn human being” can be used in place of “fetus” on an informational pamphlet for voters who will decide whether to add the right to abortion to the state’s constitution in November, the Associated Press reports.

Arizona voters will be considering a proposed state constitutional amendment that would allow abortion up to viability, now around 23 weeks, with exceptions to save the mother’s life or to protect her physical or mental health.

The amendment would also prevent the state from implementing any law that would ban access to abortion.

The Arizona secretary of state’s office announced Monday that it had certified 577,971 signatures supporting the ballot measure, many more than the number required to put a question to voters, AP said.

Criticizing Wednesday’s ruling on the grounds that the term “unborn human being” is not an objective phrase, the Arizona for Abortion Access organization said in a statement: “We are deeply disappointed in this ruling, but will not be deterred from doing everything in our power to communicate to voters the truth of the Arizona Abortion Access Act and why it’s critical to vote YES to restore and protect access to abortion care this fall.”
