Worthy Christian News » Evangelicals Are Changing Their Minds on Gay Marriage

(Politico / Worthy News)– Amy Tincher is an evangelical Christian who plays bass in the band at her suburban Ohio church, where she and her fellow congregants firmly believe the "words we adhere to" are those in the Bible. But last summer, without telling her husband and two kids exactly what she was doing, she boarded a plane for a conference in Kansas whose purpose many evangelicals would plainly consider heretical.

Tincher was one of 50 people flown from around the country and the world—Canada, China, Nigeria and South Korea—to a four-day Bible boot camp dedicated to discussing, and embracing, gay relationships. The gathering was organized by Matthew Vines, who by then was enjoying modest fame for a 2012 YouTube video in which Vines, looking even younger than his 21 years, delivers an hour-long lecture arguing that the Bible does not, in fact, condemn all same-sex relationships. The video has gone viral, racking up more than 730,000 views to date, landing Vines on the cover of the New York Times Sunday Styles section and helping him raise $100,000 for the conference, where he launched The Reformation Project, a nationwide network of pro-gay evangelicals committed to ending their church’s longstanding hostility toward gay people.

Tincher told me she had once "tried on" an anti-gay attitude to fit in with her conservative community in Liberty Township, outside Cincinnati, but like many evangelicals, she struggled to see how homophobia could accord with an all-loving Christian God. So when her pastor sent her a link to Vines’ video, she recalls, "I remember sitting in my kitchen and just crying. I knew it in my heart, but I had never been told that from the pulpit." …continue reading

Gay rights is not about equal rights, it's not about civil rights. It is part of a plan to destroy our American way of life. Don't support it, don't be fooled.

And just say no to calling 'phobia' what is simply disagreement or opposition to others' agendas.

That is the problem right there. Labeling Christians that oppose the gay agenda as phobic has done a number on the psyche of those who speak out against that lifestyle. But the gay community can bash Christians all day long and they aren't labeled phobic. Tolerance in the name of keeping a "good testimony" has also done harm to Christianity. Not only in this issue, but also in the Islamic rise in the country.

Um… Christians all agree. Homosexuality, lying, murder, sex out of marriage, abortions, voting democrat is a sin.
And bible says and such were some of you. Meaning that after becoming believers, your life started to change.
    Not stay the same.

Why does it have to be labeled phobia ? Believing something is wrong is not fear .

what a misleading title of an article. First, re-define "evangelical", then maximize the attention put on a minority opinion so it looks broader than it is. Same thing, different day.

Why? Because they don't read or know the BIBLE. READ THE BIBLE AND PREACH THE BIBLE! NOT THE NIV< NASB< CEV< or whatever! Because these are watered down, de-masculinated bibles! Bible illiteracy! That's the reason!

All I can say is this is foretold in the Bible. Jude talks about it and other books of the Bible talk about it. I agree about the translation and I think it is best to go to the Greek on this with reference to the Old Testament too. Remember, Jesus said He didn't come to change God's word but to fulfil it. So it doesn't make sense that Sodom and Gommorrah were destroyed because of this and now it is okay. We are to love the human and hate the sin. Come on People? There is definently a falling away in the world and it is a falling away of the word of God. There are consequences for actions. God is a loving God, remember though, He is perfection and hates sin. He cannot look at sin. So if you choose to sin and not walk away from it, how are you forgiven? When the adultress was about to be stoned Jesus saved her and told her to go and sin no more just like the lady at the well. I think we are on dangerous ground. Fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.

Evangelical is not ignorant of the word
Ignorant of the word is not evangelical . Tolerance and blessing same sex physical relationship is the sin that causes Almighty God to bring destruction on a nation . Not my opinion but that of the Bible

William, I would say that yes most Christians are ignorant… They haven't really read their Bibles. If they did you might find the conclusion is not what you expected.

True Christians: if you want to know how to make a secular argument (the Bible is 100% clear, despite Vines' liberal revisions) against gay marriage, here it is: http://winteryknight.wordpress.com/2012/05/08/a-secular-case-against-same-sex-marriage/

    And: http://winteryknight.wordpress.com/2014/06/24/kevin-deyoung-five-questions-for-christians-who-support-same-sex-marriage/#comments

BTW, the characterization of Evangelicals in this article is ludicrous, if it were not so intellectually insulting: authentic Christians love homosexuals as fellow human beings made in the Image of God, but despise (the physically, emotionally, and spiritually damaging) homosexual behavior. Many authentic Christian gays live in full accord with Scripture by pursuing chaste lives.

I cannot begin to tell you how I am absolutely heartened by the majority of comments I have just read. After reading the complete article and seeing Matthew Vines 'YouTube' conference on the l matter and how utterly deluded and so far from the truth of God's pure, unadulterated Word he is, I am so glad that there are still a few of us (call it the Remnant if you will) that still believe the truth of God's Word. No matter how they try to justify their argument by taking God's holy word completely out of its context to make a pretext for their sin, they will never disguise the fact homosexuality is sin in the sight of God, his Son Jesus Christ, the blessed Holy Spirit, the entire heavenly host and therefore it has to be seen for as sin to us who truly believe God's word – "the grass withers, the flower fadeth but the WORD OF OUR GOD WILL STAND FOREVER".
