Trump Signals Possible Iran Strike, Focuses on Ending Gaza War, and Avoids Two-State Commitment

(Worthy News) – TIME Magazine announced on Thursday via X/Twitter that President-elect Donald Trump has been named its “Person of the Year.” In an exclusive interview, Trump discussed his plans to end the Gaza war, expand the Abraham Accords to include nations like Saudi Arabia, and hinted at a potential conflict with Iran. While emphasizing his desire for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to conclude the Gaza conflict, Trump notably avoided endorsing a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian issue, despite proposing a version of Palestinian statehood in his 2020 “deal of the century.”
“The Middle East is going to get solved. I think it’s more complicated than the Russia-Ukraine [conflict], but I think it’s easier to solve,” Trump stated in an interview. When asked about the possibility of war with Iran, he paused before replying, “Anything can happen,” signaling a shift from his campaign promise to avoid initiating new wars.
However, The Wall Street Journal reported today that President-elect Donald Trump may authorize preemptive airstrikes against Iran’s nuclear facilities to prevent the development of a nuclear weapon. His transition team is reportedly crafting a “maximum pressure 2.0” strategy, combining military force or its threat with stringent economic sanctions to deter Iran and cripple its nuclear program.
Speaking about the Gaza war, Trump stated that Netanyahu “knows I want it to end.” When asked if Netanyahu had assured him of plans to conclude the conflict, Trump avoided a direct answer, stating, “I don’t want people from either side killed… whether it’s the Palestinians and the Israelis and all of the different entities that we have in the Middle East.”
When asked if he still supports his 2020 “deal of the century,” Trump responded, “I support a plan of peace, and it can take different forms. I support whatever solution we can do to get peace. There are other ideas other than two-state, but I support whatever is necessary to get not just peace, [but] a lasting peace. It can’t go on where every five years you end up in tragedy. There are other alternatives.”
The wide-ranging interview will be featured in the upcoming issue of Time, which named Donald Trump “Person of the Year” for the second time (his first win was in 2016), the magazine highlighted his “historic comeback,” “once-in-a-generation political realignment,” and impact on the American presidency and the nation’s global role.
