(Worthy News) – After an empty school in central Israel was damaged by a partially intercepted Houthi missile overnight, Israel carried out retaliatory air strikes in Yemen which killed nine people on Thursday morning, Deutsche Welle (DW) reports. No one was injured in the Houthi strike but extensive damage was caused to the school and to surrounding cars in Ramat Gan near Tel Aviv.

Israel’s actions were reportedly planned before the Houthi missile fired from Yemen hit the school – in retaliation for almost a year of missile attacks by the Houthi insurgents, who claim to be acting in solidarity with Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

According to Al Masirah TV, a broadcaster operated by the Iran-backed Houthi rebel movement which controls much of Yemen, seven people were killed in an Israeli strike on the port of Salif and the others in two strikes on the nearby Ras Issa oil facility on Thursday, DW reports.

In a statement on X/Twitter confirming Thursday’s strikes the Israel Defense Forces said it “conducted precise strikes on Houthi military targets in Yemen, including ports and energy infrastructure in Sanaa.”

“The strikes degrade the Houthi terrorist regime, preventing it from exploiting the targets for military and terrorist purposes, including the smuggling of Iranian weapons to the region,” the IDF said.

In a separate statement of warning to the Houthis, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said: “I urge the leaders of the Houthi organization to see, to understand, and to remember: whoever raises a hand against the state of Israel, his hand will be cut off. Whoever harms us will be harmed sevenfold.”
