(Worthy News) – Six American hostages who were imprisoned in Venezuela in recent months were released on Saturday as part of a deal negotiated by White House envoy Richard Grenell.

The first openly gay person to hold a Cabinet-level position, Grenell served as acting director of national intelligence in 2020 during Trump’s first administration and currently serves as Trump’s new Special Presidential Envoy for Special Missions.

Under the terms of the deal Grenell negotiated, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro accepted the repatriation of Venezuelans who entered the United States illegally. The deal also allows U.S.-based oil companies to stay in Venezuela under existing sanctions exemptions, the Wall Street Journal reported.

“It is so good to have the Venezuela Hostages back home, and, very important to note, that Venezuela has agreed to receive, back into their Country, all Venezuela illegal aliens who were encamped in the U.S, including gang members of Tren de Aragua,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social site.

“Venezuela has further agreed to supply the transportation back,” Trump noted. “We are in the process of removing record numbers of illegal aliens from all Countries, and all Countries have agreed to accept these illegal aliens back.”

As of the most recent estimates before 2025, some seven million Venezuelans have fled their home since the mid-2010s due to their country’s economic collapse, political instability, social unrest and crime, and healthcare crisis.
