Trump-Netanyahu Call Reportedly Marked by Sharp Disagreements Over Iran Strategy

(Worthy News) – A phone call last Thursday between U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, initially characterized as a demonstration of unity on Iran, was in fact marked by sharp disagreements over how to address the Islamic Republic’s nuclear ambitions, according to a report by Israel’s Channel 12.
While both leaders reiterated their shared goal of preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons, sources familiar with the call revealed that Trump strongly advocated for a diplomatic resolution. “I want a diplomatic solution with the Iranians. I believe in my ability to make a good deal,” Trump reportedly told Netanyahu, adding that any agreement must be mutually beneficial.
The reported tensions come as U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem visits Israel on behalf of the Trump administration. “President Trump specifically sent me here to speak with the prime minister about how negotiations are going and how important it is that we stay united and let this process play out,” Noem told Fox News. She described her discussions with Netanyahu as “very candid,” hinting at potential friction.
Despite the disagreement on Iran, Netanyahu’s office issued a statement saying the president “expressed support for the objectives set by Prime Minister Netanyahu: to secure the release of all our hostages, to eliminate Hamas, and to advance the Trump Plan.”
During a press conference, Netanyahu suggested Israel might be willing to end the war in Gaza if the Trump Plan could be implemented. The plan reportedly includes a phased demilitarization of Gaza and an international oversight mechanism.
Speaking Monday from the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem, Secretary Noem delivered President Trump’s message to Israelis grieving the victims of last week’s terror attack in Washington, D.C.
“President Trump sends his heartfelt condolences and solidarity to all of you,” she said. “He stands firmly with Israel in the fight against hatred and terror, and believes the lives of Yaron and Sarah will have lasting meaning–uniting us in purpose and strengthening our resolve to overcome our enemies.”
The revelation of friction between the longtime allies comes at a critical moment for U.S.-Israel coordination, as pressure mounts to chart a new course in the Middle East amid ongoing conflict and nuclear concerns.
