DOJ Opens Grand Jury Probe into Obama-Era Officials Over Alleged Russia Collusion Hoax

(Worthy News) – Attorney General Pam Bondi has authorized the convening of a federal grand jury to consider potential criminal charges against former Obama administration officials involved in what has been widely dubbed the “Russia collusion hoax,” multiple sources confirmed Monday.
The move marks a significant escalation following a criminal referral last month from Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, who accused former President Barack Obama, ex-CIA Director John Brennan, and former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper of orchestrating a conspiracy to falsely tie Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign to the Russian government.
In her referral, Gabbard described the alleged actions as a “treasonous conspiracy,” asserting that high-ranking intelligence officials had politicized their roles to manufacture a narrative that would delegitimize Trump’s presidency. “After President Trump won the 2016 election against Hillary Clinton, President Obama and his national security cabinet members manufactured and politicized intelligence to lay the groundwork for what was essentially a years-long coup against President Trump,” a statement from the ODNI claimed.
Attorney General Bondi’s order directs an unnamed federal prosecutor to begin presenting evidence to the grand jury. While the convening of a grand jury does not guarantee criminal charges, it is a necessary step toward potential indictments should the panel find sufficient cause.
The development comes on the heels of newly declassified intelligence released by Gabbard, which included records suggesting Obama asked top aides in December 2016 to prepare an intelligence assessment on Russian efforts to interfere in the election. While the assessment concluded that Russia sought to sow distrust in the democratic process, it also noted that Moscow’s actions did not impact the outcome of the election.
Last week, Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) released a declassified annex to former Special Counsel John Durham’s report, revealing that the FBI ignored early warnings that the Steele dossier–a key piece of evidence used to justify surveillance on Trump associates–was likely disinformation originating from the Clinton campaign.
Fox News Digital reported that Bondi personally reviewed the referral and ordered DOJ staff to begin legal proceedings. “The Attorney General believes there is clear cause for deep concern and has instructed prosecutors to take the next appropriate steps,” a DOJ spokesperson said. The department declined to comment further on the ongoing investigation.
No charges have been filed at this stage, and the identities of any potential targets remain unknown. Legal analysts note that the nearly decade-old nature of the allegations may limit the scope of prosecution due to statute of limitations constraints. However, officials say the investigation will proceed to determine whether criminal conduct occurred and whether any remaining legal avenues exist for accountability.
Former intelligence chiefs Brennan, Clapper, and former FBI Director James Comey have long faced criticism from Trump allies for their role in the investigation that clouded Trump’s presidency. Two special counsel probes and years of media scrutiny followed, but no conclusive evidence of collusion was ever found.
Whether the grand jury will ultimately recommend indictments remains to be seen. For now, the Justice Department is signaling it is taking the allegations seriously–and that the legal battle over the origins of the Russia collusion narrative is far from over.
