(Worthy News) – The UN Security Council voted 13-0 on Monday to adopt a sweeping U.S.-drafted resolution that codifies President Donald Trump’s 20-point plan for Gaza, endorses a new International Stabilization Force (ISF), and formally recognizes the establishment of a “Board of Peace” to be chaired by Trump himself. Russia and China abstained, allowing the measure to pass without a veto.

“We stand at a crossroads. Today, we have the power to douse the flames and light a path to peace,” said U.S. Ambassador Mike Waltz before the vote. Calling the measure “historic and constructive,” Waltz said the resolution “represents another significant step toward a stable Gaza that will be able to prosper and an environment that will allow Israel to live in security.”

President Trump hailed the Council’s decision as “one of the biggest approvals in the History of the United Nations,” writing on Truth Social that it “will lead to further Peace all over the World” and marks “a moment of true Historic proportion.”

Mandate for Gaza: Ceasefire, Stabilization Force, Demilitarization of Hamas

The resolution authorizes an International Stabilization Force, to be deployed across Gaza as Israeli troops withdraw in phases, leaving some forces in place to guard against renewed terrorist threats. The measure backs Trump’s plan requiring Hamas to decommission all weapons, declaring that “the demilitarization of Hamas is a basic condition of the peace agreement,” according to Israeli Ambassador Danny Danon.

Waltz told the Council that Gaza had been “a crucible of conflict, a hell on earth where Hamas’s brutality and terror met Israel’s fierce response.” He added, “We have a ceasefire that is holding… The remaining hostages must come home.”

A Pathway to Palestinian Statehood – and Israeli Concerns

The final U.S. draft introduces, for the first time, direct Security Council language referencing a “credible pathway to Palestinian self-determination and statehood.” According to the text, this pathway becomes viable only after significant Palestinian Authority reforms and after Gaza’s reconstruction has “advanced.”

The United States will establish a dialogue between Israel and the Palestinians, the resolution states, to agree on “a political horizon for peaceful and prosperous coexistence.”

Israeli officials reacted with alarm, especially after the clause appeared only in late-stage negotiations. Israel’s Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich blamed the “deterioration” on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s silence, while National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir warned his party would quit the coalition if a Palestinian state was recognized.

Dan Diker, president of the Jerusalem Center for Security and Foreign Affairs, told JNS that the overwhelming majority of Israelis oppose such a step. “Between 75% and 80% reject another Palestinian terror state, which this time would overlook Ben-Gurion Airport,” he said.

Diker argued that Netanyahu is seeking to keep relations with Trump strong and preserve the possibility of normalization with Saudi Arabia, noting Trump’s “enormous efforts” to expand the Abraham Accords.

Trump’s “Board of Peace” and Regional Backing

Under the plan, Gaza will be run during the transition period by an interim technocratic government of Palestinian and international experts supervised by the Board of Peace, which Trump will chair. Authority would eventually be transferred to a reformed Palestinian Authority.

Waltz revealed at the Tikvah 2025 Jewish Leadership Conference on Sunday that more than a dozen European leaders, Palestinian Authority chief Mahmoud Abbas, and key Arab partners–including Egypt, Qatar, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Pakistan, Jordan, and Indonesia–backed the agreement.

“With this kind of support, I ask you, if the region most affected… can accept this resolution, how could anyone be against it?” Waltz said at the Council. “Are you more righteous in this cause than those who must live with it and will ultimately benefit from this plan for peace?”

He added that the choices were stark: “It’s either Hamas or the Israeli military. If it were the IDF in perpetuity, then frankly I don’t think we have a pathway to expanding the Abraham Accords… Tomorrow could truly, truly be a historic day.”

Russian and Chinese Objections Fall Away

Russia, which initially drafted a rival resolution to keep Gaza’s future in UN hands rather than Washington’s, ultimately abstained. Moscow complained that the U.S. plan did not adequately reflect long-standing international principles or clearly define the peacekeeping mandate.

Nevertheless, neither Russia nor China exercised their veto, allowing the measure to pass with overwhelming support.

The adopted resolution annexes Trump’s 20-point plan, first unveiled in September, outlining a phased approach beginning with the release of hostages and expanded humanitarian aid, followed by Hamas disarmament, Israeli withdrawal, deployment of the ISF, and the creation of a transitional governing body under the Board of Peace.

A Prophetic Moment: Nations Gathering Over the Land

For many watching events unfold through a prophetic lens, the global alignment surrounding Gaza and renewed international pressure to partition the land carries profound biblical significance. Observers point to Joel 3:2, where the Lord declares that He will “gather all nations” for judgment “on account of My people, My heritage Israel,” specifically “because they have divided up My land.” As world powers debate borders, sovereignty, and the future of Judea, Samaria, and Gaza, many Christians see these developments not merely as geopolitical shifts but as events moving in step with ancient prophecies concerning the end of the age.
