Israel Strikes Hezbollah Weapons Site After Intelligence Contradicts Lebanese Claims

(Worthy News) – The Israel Defense Forces carried out airstrikes Sunday on a site in southern Lebanon that the Lebanese Army had previously declared free of Hezbollah activity, Israeli officials said, citing intelligence assessments that contradicted Beirut’s findings.

According to Israeli sources, the targeted location in the Kfar Hatta area contained significant weapons infrastructure belonging to Hezbollah, despite earlier inspections by the Lebanese Armed Forces that concluded no military installations were present. Lebanese officials conveyed those findings to international monitoring mechanisms, and similar claims were reported by the Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar.

Israeli intelligence assessments, however, determined that Hezbollah continued to operate from the site. During a second wave of strikes on Sunday, the Israel Defense Forces attacked and destroyed the location. Video footage released afterward showed secondary explosions, which Israeli officials said were consistent with stored weapons or munitions. The military said the structure included underground facilities used for weapons storage.

The IDF stated that the strike was conducted in response to what it described as Hezbollah’s ongoing violations of ceasefire understandings between Israel and Lebanon. Israeli officials emphasized that operations against Hezbollah infrastructure would continue as long as such threats persist, underscoring that Israel retains the right to act independently based on its own intelligence assessments.

According to the IDF, the same site had been struck roughly a week earlier after Israel alerted the Lebanese Army to what it described as active terrorist infrastructure in the area. While the LAF conducted an inspection following the warning, Israeli officials said the weapons facilities were not fully dismantled, prompting Sunday’s follow-up strike.

Ahead of the attack, the IDF said it took steps to reduce the risk to civilians, including issuing advance warnings to residents. Arabic-language military spokesperson Avichay Adraee issued evacuation alerts on X, warning civilians to remain at least 300 meters away from a building identified as a Hezbollah military infrastructure site in the Kafr Hata area. Following the warning, the military confirmed it had begun striking Hezbollah infrastructure in several areas of southern Lebanon.

Later on Sunday, the IDF confirmed it struck a second underground site used by Hezbollah to store weapons, noting that the location had also been targeted about a week earlier. The military reiterated that it had informed the Lebanese Armed Forces of terrorist activity at the site, but alleged that the infrastructure was not fully dismantled.

In a separate incident Sunday evening, the IDF said it struck and killed a Hezbollah terrorist near Bint Jbeil.

The strikes follow a series of recent Israeli operations against Hezbollah targets in Lebanon. On Friday, the IDF confirmed multiple strikes in response to what it called continued violations of ceasefire understandings. On Thursday, an Israeli airstrike in the Zaita region killed Alaa’ Hourani, whom the military identified as a Hezbollah drone operator involved in rebuilding the group’s infrastructure and supporting intelligence and operational activities.

Separately, in the Gaza Strip, the IDF said soldiers from the 188th Brigade identified a terrorist crossing the Yellow Line in southern Gaza on Sunday. According to the military, the individual approached the soldiers in a manner that posed an immediate threat. The Israeli Air Force, coordinating with ground forces, carried out a strike that killed the terrorist.
