Trump Issues Stark Warning to Iran as Strait of Hormuz Crisis Deepens, Military Strikes Intensify

(Worthy News) – The confrontation between the United States and Iran escalated sharply this weekend after President Donald Trump issued a stark ultimatum threatening to “obliterate” Iran’s power infrastructure if Tehran does not reopen the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours — one of the world’s most critical chokepoints.

The narrow waterway, through which roughly 20 percent of global oil supply passes, has effectively ground to a halt amid ongoing hostilities. Iran has warned that any U.S. attack on its infrastructure would trigger sweeping retaliation across the region, including strikes on energy and desalination facilities vital to Gulf nations.

Tehran’s leadership condemned Trump’s warning as a violation of international law, arguing that targeting civilian infrastructure constitutes a war crime. Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf responded bluntly, declaring that if Iran’s power plants are struck, “vital infrastructure across the region” would be considered legitimate targets and “irreversibly destroyed.”

U.S. Expands Military Pressure

Meanwhile, the Pentagon confirmed continued progress in degrading Iran’s military capabilities. U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) released before-and-after imagery showing the destruction of the Kuh-E Barjamali ballistic missile assembly facility, a key site used to produce short- and medium-range missiles.

Since operations began in late February, more than 8,000 U.S. military flights have been conducted over the region. Officials also dismissed Iranian claims of downing an American F-15 fighter jet, calling them false.

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz reinforced the administration’s hardline stance, stating that Iran’s infrastructure is deeply intertwined with its military apparatus — particularly through the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which the U.S. and several European nations designate as a terrorist organization.

“When a regime uses its infrastructure to fuel war, repression, and nuclear ambitions, those assets become legitimate targets,” Waltz said. “The president is not messing around.”

Growing Global Alarm

The crisis has sparked mounting concern among global powers, with more than a dozen nations — including European and Asian allies — calling for the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and condemning attacks on commercial shipping.

At the same time, U.S. officials warned that Iran is advancing toward longer-range missile capabilities, potentially enabling strikes deep into Europe. The warning follows Iran’s recent long-range missile launch targeting Diego Garcia, a U.S.-U.K. base in the Indian Ocean — one of the farthest such attempts on record.

Waltz cautioned that Iran’s development of reentry-capable missiles, combined with nuclear ambitions, presents a grave global threat. “It should petrify every American,” he said, “to imagine a nuclear Middle East awash in weapons.”

The war, launched on Feb. 28 by the United States and Israel following the collapse of nuclear negotiations, has now claimed over 2,000 lives across the region and disrupted global markets, sending oil prices surging and threatening key air and shipping routes.

Despite the intensifying conflict, President Trump has signaled that he is also considering options to “wind down” operations, even as military pressure continues to build.

A High-Stakes Turning Point

With Iran threatening to fully close the Strait of Hormuz and the United States preparing potential strikes on critical infrastructure, the conflict has entered a volatile new phase — one that could reshape global energy markets and the strategic balance of power in the Middle East.

As nations watch closely, the next 48 hours may prove decisive — not only for the region but also for the stability of the global economy.
