(Worthy News) – President Donald Trump used the closing press conference of the NATO summit in Ankara to deliver one of his sharpest warnings yet about communism, saying the ideology is gaining ground in the United States and abroad and poses a grave danger to American liberty.

Responding to a question from NTD News, Trump said communism is often easy to sell because it promises free housing, government benefits, and relief from hardship. But he warned that behind those promises is a system that has repeatedly produced poverty, repression, violence, and national ruin.

“I want to get the word out, because what’s forming is communism in the country, and communism is easy to sell,” Trump said. “It sounds so nice. It’s not nice. It’s a very dangerous term.”

Trump said communism has “become international,” but insisted it has “never worked” anywhere it has been tried. He contrasted it with the American system, which he described as imperfect but successful, citing strong employment, rising wages, and broad economic opportunity.

“One thing that happens when you go communist is you never come back,” Trump said. “You die in squalor, and it gets very evil and very nasty.”

The president compared the threat to some of the darkest moments in American history, including Pearl Harbor and the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, arguing that communism is uniquely dangerous because it can hollow out a nation from within.

Trump’s remarks come as self-described democratic socialists running as Democrats have recently won primary contests in several states, including New York and Colorado, prompting the president to sharpen his attacks on the party’s leftward drift.

Without naming specific candidates, Trump described some of the movement’s rising figures as “very dangerous” and said Americans should not be deceived by softer political labels.

“They’re communists, they’re not social Democrats,” Trump said during a Faith and Freedom Coalition event on June 26, warning that socialist language is often used to make radical ideas sound more acceptable to voters.

In recent speeches surrounding America’s 250th anniversary celebrations, Trump has returned repeatedly to the theme. On July 3, he warned that “there is now a resurgence of the communist menace in our land,” including among those who embrace ideas “totally opposed to our way of life and our great success.”

“These are not mere political disagreements like differences over taxes or regulations,” Trump said. “Communism is a mortal threat to American liberty.”

Trump also took aim at those who portray America as a nation founded chiefly on oppression and stolen land, saying such arguments do more than attack the past.

“As for those who peddle Marx’s lies about our heritage, who tell our children that we live on stolen land or that our heroes were oppressors, they’re doing something much worse than slandering our past; they are slandering and attacking our future,” he said.

On July 4, addressing a crowd on the National Mall, Trump called communism “the opposite of the American system” and said U.S. soldiers did not fight the ideology abroad only to see it revived at home.

“It’s like a cancer,” Trump said. “You got to cut it out; you got to cut it out fast.”

The president’s warning echoes a long and bitter record. From Mao Zedong’s China to the former Soviet Union, communist regimes left tens of millions dead through famine, purges, forced labor, repression, and political terror. Historians still debate the precise numbers, but the human cost remains one of the darkest chapters of the modern age.

For Trump, the issue is not merely economic theory, but a battle over the soul of the nation.

“The communist system has never worked,” he said. “We’re not going to let it happen.”
