WASHINGTON (Worthy News) – An Iranian ballistic missile that killed two American soldiers at a Jordanian air base struck prefabricated housing where U.S. troops lived and slept, according to American officials cited in an exclusive Wall Street Journal report.

The deadly strike was the third of three Iranian missile attacks against Muwaffaq Salti Air Base within a 24-hour period. The repeated attacks demonstrated the continuing danger facing tens of thousands of American military personnel stationed throughout the Middle East despite extensive U.S. air and missile defenses.

The Pentagon identified the fallen soldiers as First Lt. Tyler J. Feehan of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, and Pvt. Isabella Gonzales of Carrollton, Texas. Both served in Army air and missile defense units.

Remains believed to belong to a third missing servicemember were recovered from the attack site and were undergoing examination. U.S. officials had not publicly confirmed the person’s identity.

Three Attacks in 24 Hours

During the first missile attack, debris struck the base’s gym after warning sirens sent personnel running toward hardened bunkers. Several servicemembers were reportedly injured while attempting to reach shelter, but no deaths occurred.

Hours later, a second missile penetrated the defenses and struck an empty aircraft hangar.

The third attack proved deadly. An Iranian missile struck containerized housing units where soldiers had been sleeping. Warning sirens sounded again, but some personnel were unable to reach the bunkers before impact, according to the Journal.

It remained unclear whether Feehan and Gonzales were killed inside the housing units or while attempting to reach shelter.

U.S. officials have not released evidence showing that Iran deliberately targeted the living quarters to inflict mass casualties. Nevertheless, the repeated penetration of American defenses raises serious questions about the vulnerability of U.S. installations to Iran’s remaining inventory of maneuverable ballistic missiles and attack drones.

Trump Vows Powerful Retaliation

President Donald Trump warned Monday that Tehran would face severe consequences whenever Iranian forces kill an American service member.

“Every time Iran kills an American Soldier they will pay for that killing many times over!” Trump wrote on social media, saying the directive had been delivered to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Dan Caine and other military leaders.

Shortly after Trump’s warning, the U.S. military announced another round of strikes intended to weaken Iran’s ability to attack commercial vessels and civilian mariners traveling through the Strait of Hormuz.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio said American defenses intercepted nearly all the missiles fired toward the Jordanian base, but one penetrated the defensive shield with tragic consequences.

“A missile got through,” Rubio told reporters. “We shot down almost all the missiles. One leaked through, hit the wrong place, and tragically, and it’s heartbreaking.”

Rubio said Washington remained open to diplomacy but warned that Tehran would have to honor any agreement it entered.

“We’re always open to diplomacy,” he said. “It has to be real.”

Nearly 100 American Personnel Injured

Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said nearly 100 American servicemembers had suffered some degree of injury since July 7, although 96% had returned to duty.

The majority of those injuries were described as minor concussions.

The Jordan attack was part of a broader Iranian campaign against installations housing American forces. Iran also struck King Faisal Air Base and attacked another Jordanian airfield, damaging several U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopters, according to the Journal.

Iran has worked to adapt its weapons and tactics to evade American interception systems, including through missiles capable of traveling at extreme speeds and maneuvering during their descent.

The success of three missiles in penetrating defenses at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base underscores the difficult task confronting American commanders responsible for protecting an estimated 50,000 U.S. troops across the region.

Defense Secretary Hegseth and Gen. Caine were scheduled to testify before a Senate panel Tuesday regarding the growing financial and human costs of the war.
