WASHINGTON, D.C. (Worthy News) – Israel’s newly appointed Mossad director, Roman Gofman, quietly traveled to Washington earlier this month for high-level talks with CIA Director John Ratcliffe and White House officials focused on Iran’s nuclear program and the continuing regional war, according to an Axios report published Wednesday.

Two sources familiar with the visit told Axios that Gofman’s trip occurred approximately two weeks ago and marked his first official visit to Washington since taking control of Israel’s foreign intelligence agency in June.

The timing was significant. The meetings took place shortly before tensions intensified around the Strait of Hormuz and fighting involving Iran resumed, underscoring the close intelligence coordination between Jerusalem and Washington as both nations confront Tehran’s nuclear ambitions and regional military activity.

Gofman met directly with Ratcliffe and held additional discussions with senior White House officials, Axios reported. Specific details of the talks remain classified, but the discussions reportedly centered on the Iran war and the future of Tehran’s nuclear program.

The CIA previously concluded that U.S. and Israeli strikes severely damaged several key Iranian nuclear facilities, although intelligence agencies have continued gathering information about Tehran’s remaining capabilities and efforts to rebuild its nuclear infrastructure.

A Trusted Netanyahu Adviser Takes Command

Gofman, a former major general in the Israel Defense Forces, is considered one of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s closest national-security advisers. Before becoming Mossad director, he served as Netanyahu’s military secretary.

Israel formally approved his appointment in April, and he assumed command in June, succeeding longtime Mossad chief David Barnea. Gofman was seriously wounded while confronting Hamas terrorists near Israel’s southern communities during the October 7, 2023, invasion.

His appointment placed a battle-tested military commander at the head of an intelligence agency deeply involved in Israel’s long campaign to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.

The Washington meetings suggest that Gofman is moving quickly to strengthen operational and intelligence ties with the United States at a moment when the threat from Iran remains one of Israel’s most urgent security challenges.
