PCC President wants Asia Bibi Released Now

LAHORE, PAKISTAN (Worthy News)– The President of the Pakistan Christian Congress demanded the immediate release of Asia Bibi Saturday.

PCC President Nazir Bhatti expressed outrage that Bibi — a young Christian mother sentenced to death by a lower court on false accusations of blasphemy — has been waiting two years for the Lahore High Court to hear her appeal.

Thousands of poor Pakistanis remain behind bars while awaiting hearing dates for their appeals in Pakistan’s back-logged high courts.

“(The) Islamic Republic of Pakistan is a country where justice is never ensured to religious minorities,” said Bhatti.

“Pakistani Christian have lost their confidence in (their) judicial system … because it protected and released Muslims who attacked Churches, killed worshipers, burnt alive women and children (and) gunned down pastors,” he said. “(It) never punished Muslims who filed false blasphemy cases against Christians, never charged Muslims who (forcefully) converted Christian women to Islam and gang raped Christian girls …”

Bhatti has appealed to President Asif Ali Zardari to pardon Bibi on account of her ill health, but her family fears to visit their mother in prison after Muslim neighbors threatened to kill them if the courts release her.
