Israel Unveils Next Generation of Low-Cost Autonomous Attack Drones
by Emmitt Barry, Worthy News Washington D.C. Bureau Chief
(Worthy News) – Israel is moving to expand the use of autonomous strike systems across its frontline forces, awarding a new Defense Ministry contract to develop a next generation of low-cost tactical attack drones for the Israel Defense Forces.
Ondas announced Tuesday that it had won the strategic tender, valued at several million shekels, as part of a broader Israeli effort to integrate unmanned and autonomous systems more deeply into battlefield operations.
The new tactical drones are being designed for widespread deployment among frontline combat units, giving soldiers access to relatively inexpensive precision-strike capabilities that can be rapidly deployed as battlefield conditions change.
According to the company, the system will include an advanced aerial platform, autonomous capabilities, mission integration and compatibility with existing IDF command-and-control networks.
The program reflects lessons emerging from Israel’s recent wars, where drones have become increasingly central to surveillance, targeting and precision strikes. Israel’s military is now seeking to place such capabilities closer to individual combat formations rather than reserving them primarily for specialized units.
Ondas develops technology across four major defense sectors: air defense and counter-drone systems, aerial intelligence, aerial strike systems and unmanned ground vehicles. Its platforms also employ artificial intelligence-based command-and-control software capable of coordinating drones, sensors, robotic systems and combat forces.
