WASHINGTON (Worthy News) – Humanoid robots capable of navigating rugged terrain, detecting people and conducting around-the-clock surveillance could eventually join U.S. Border Patrol operations along the southern border, as an American robotics company moves closer to potential national-security deployments.

Foundation CEO Sankaet Pathak told Fox News Digital that the company has demonstrated its Phantom humanoid robot technology to Department of Homeland Security officials and is holding discussions with several branches of the federal government, including the Army, Navy, Air Force and DHS.

The robots are designed to operate in places where conventional surveillance systems can struggle — including rough terrain, remote stretches of the border and underground tunnels. Phantom can autonomously map its surroundings, identify humans and flag suspicious activity for human officers.

Pathak said the goal would be to keep federal officers out of unnecessarily dangerous environments while allowing robotic systems to maintain persistent surveillance.

Unlike fixed cameras or aerial drones, humanoid robots could potentially move through environments built for people, climb over obstacles and enter confined spaces while transmitting information back to agents.

Humans Would Retain Enforcement Decisions

Despite the futuristic possibilities, no deployment agreement has yet been reached.

A DHS spokesperson told Fox News that the department currently has no pilot program or active prime contract with Foundation involving the humanoid robots.

Pathak said the company nevertheless believes a limited border pilot could begin quickly if the government approves one, with larger operations potentially following.

The immediate focus would be surveillance and reconnaissance rather than autonomous law enforcement. Pathak said robots would detect activity and alert officers, leaving decisions about intervention in human hands.

Foundation has also indicated that the technology could eventually be armed if requested by the federal government, although Pathak stressed that autonomous lethal or enforcement decisions are not part of the company’s near-term border plans.

Military Applications Already Emerging

The border proposal comes as humanoid robotics increasingly moves beyond factories and experimental demonstrations into military and national-security applications.

Foundation has been developing Phantom for industrial and defense missions, while ZeroHedge reported that the company has also explored military applications and testing of humanoid systems in high-risk environments.

The broader shift reflects rapid advances in artificial intelligence, sensors and robotics that increasingly allow machines to perceive their surroundings and perform physical tasks with greater autonomy.

DHS and Customs and Border Protection already employ artificial intelligence across a range of security functions, including identity verification, cargo screening and other border-related operations.

Humanoid patrol robots would represent a significantly more visible step — bringing AI-powered systems out of command centers and directly into the physical environment.

For now, the proposal remains under discussion. But as robotic technology advances, what once appeared confined to science fiction is increasingly becoming a practical option for border security, military reconnaissance and other missions considered dangerous for human personnel.
