New bomb threatens Sudanese Christians

JUBA, SOUTH SUDAN (Worthy News)– A new bomb is now being used by the Islamist government of Sudan against the peaceful residents of the Nuba Mountains of South Sudan, according to CBN news.

Late last month, 48 rockets hit a school in the city of Kauda, but though no one was killed, the Nubans were surprised by Sudanese President Omar al Bashir’s latest weapon: the parachute bomb. These bombs are potentially more deadly than other munitions as they can quietly float from the sky before exploding on unsuspecting civilians below.

“Every day, there’s air bombardment, destroying the schools, even the facilities-health centers, churches and everything,” said Sudanese Christian and activist Nahmia Ibrahim Shaloka.

“It’s just like [they’re] totally focusing to destroy the life of the people and they target even the civilians,” Shaolka said. “They don’t focus on anything else.”

The Nuba Mountains were where Muslims and Christians lived in peace, but for the past 25 years, al Bashir has relentlessly waged war against them both.

“The conflict is not between Muslims and Christians,” said Tina Ramirez of Hardwired. “It’s between Bashir and his version of Islam. It’s extremely oppressive to everybody else in Sudan and that includes South Sudan. So, he’s constantly pitting groups off of each other and instigating problems, even in South Sudan.”

The International Criminal Court has issued a warrant against al Bashir for crimes against humanity, but to date, the Sudanese president has avoided arrest.
