UN Human Rights Council Approves Inquiry into Eritrea

NEW YORK (Worthy News)– On Saturday the UN’s Human Rights Council created a commission of inquiry into Eritrea, one of the world’s most repressive states, according to International Christian Concern.

Since 1993, Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki has severely restricted free religious practice, arresting, torturing and even summarily executing Christians caught praying, or reading the scriptures.

In a recent 38-page letter, four Eritrean Bishops lamented the living conditions in the East-African nation, known as “The Great Prison” and the “North Korea of Africa”.

Last year, Amnesty International reported that some 10,000 Eritreans had been imprisoned for political reasons since Eritrea’s independence from Ethiopia in 1993.
