RAWALPINDI (Worthy News)-- A Christian pastor accused of blasphemy was shot and killed by a policeman Thursday inside Pakistan's Adiyala jail in Rawalpindi, according to International Christian Concern.

Pastor Zafar Bhatti had been receiving death threats in prison from other inmates and his guards before being murdered.

Bhatti was accused of blasphemy back in 2012 after a police report alleged that he had sent blasphemous text messages to Ahmed Khan, then deputy secretary of Jamaat Ahle Sunnat, a Pakistani Muslim organization.

On July 16 Bhatti was arrested and then tortured for days as police attempted to extract a confession from him. But when Bhatti did not admit to the allegations against him, the police sent him to court to be formally charged.

When Bhatti's family asked police why he had been beaten so badly, they replied: "The family should thank God that he was still alive, otherwise, they would have killed him for what he had done."

Bhatti was remanded to Adiyala jail on December 18 after the court refused to accept his bail plea.

At least 48 defendants accused of blasphemy have died from "extra-judicial" justice in Pakistan. Non-Muslims are both disproportionately accused and convicted for blasphemy; in 2013, of the 36defendants accused of blasphemy, 30 were religious minorities and 12 of those were Christians.

Although Christians constitute only two percent of Pakistan's population, one-third of all blasphemy accusations made in 2013 were filed against them.

"Beyond being disproportionately accused and convicted of blasphemy, the vast majority of blasphemy accusations brought against Christians are false," said William Stark, ICC's Regional Manager for South Asia. "Unfortunately, pressure for Islamic radical groups and general discrimination against Christians in Pakistan has transformed trial courts into little more than rubber stamps for blasphemy accusations brought against Christians, regardless of the evidence brought to bear in the case."

  1. I was blessed to receive a letter from Pastor Bhatti while he was in jail. His faith was strong, even under severe physical persecution, and he even included some Bible verses that I had not considered before on the subject of Christian suffering and persecution. Please pray for his family and fellow believers.

Christian 'Blasphemy' Suspect Misreported as Slain in Pakistani Jail Is Alive and Well

LAHORE, Pakistan, Oct. 3, 2014 (Morning Star News) – Contrary to published reports, a Christian on trial for alleged “blasphemy” in Rawalpindi, Pakistan is alive and well following a Sept. 25 gun attack by a prison guard ranting against defamers of the prophet of Islam, sources said.

Prison officials and the wife of the accused Christian, Zafar Bhatti, told Morning Star News that Adiala Jail guard Muhammad Yousaf wanted to kill all inmates accused of blasphemy against Islam, but that other guards took him down after he shot a British-Pakistani Muslim in the chest who was convicted of blasphemy. The victim was recuperating at a private hospital.

Bhatti had been misreported as killed in mainstream and niche media ...

      • Joe DeCaro - you just made my night! I wondered what was going on, since another Bhatti apparently was killed in opposition to the anti-blasphemy law. Thank you, and God bless!

  2. Yes, islam is indeed only slanderous fraud, and it begins by slandering a good God, by asserting (in each and every chapter header in the Qur'an) that "god" is a violent destructive beast who has personally destroyed a lot of the abandoned ghost-towns in Arabia. This is speculation presented as fact (the towns were destroyed by tribal conflict or economic necessity); islam is founded on a lie.

"So, obviously" it continues, "god" will get all the muslims, too - unless and until they at least try to get all the non-muslims for allah, first!

Their "god" is nothing but a capricious, "unknown and unknowable" conscious scary Pain; something to be feared and obeyed, but never admire nor loved. Basically, "allah" is only Satan.

I firmly believe that, since Muhammad blamed God for taking away every family member he'd ever loved at an early age, he created islam as a derisory "J'Accuse!" jeremiad against God, but one which was sarcastically disguised as praise!
