Iran: Appeals Court upholds Fathi’s Sentence

(Worthy News)– Last month an Appeals Court in Iran increased the prison sentence handed down to Pastor Farshid Fathi.

According to Barnabas Aid, after already serving six years in prison following his 2010 arrest for attending a house church after converting from Islam, Fathi’s sentence was lengthened to one year after prison guards falsely accused him of possessing alcohol.

Contrary to Iranian law, after Fathi’s appeal was rejected, he was transferred to a ward in Rajaei-Shahr prison that houses hardened criminals.

According to the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom, as of February 2015, about 90 Christians were being held, or were awaiting trial because of their faith.
