Thailand: Christian dies in detention on Christmas

By Joseph DeCaro, Worthy News Correspondent

(Worthy News) – A Christian woman who fled from religious persecution in Pakistan died in Thai police custody on Christmas Eve after she was denied her prescribed medications.

According to the Christian Post, Samina Faisal was arrested last December for overstaying her visa during a crackdown on all Pakistani Christians seeking asylum in Thailand. After her arrest, Faisal was denied meds for hypertension, allowing her condition to go untreated. Just four days later, Faisal died of complications.

In response, the British Pakistani Christian Association has begun a campaign to free Christian migrants who must pay as much as £1,000 in fines to be released from jail and moved to an immigration center. To date, BPCA has paid the fines for 11 imprisoned Christians.
