Top Israel, US military brass to meet in Washington on security, cooperation

(Worthy News) – Israeli Defense Forces Chief of Staff Gadi Eizenkot arrived in the US on Sunday for an ‘official work visit’ with his American counterpart, Chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff Joseph Dunford, the IDF said in a statement.

According to the IDF, Eizenkot will also meet with other senior US military officials to discuss “current security challenges, the regional security assessments in the Middle East and military cooperation.”

Last week, it was announced that the acting head of Israel’s National Security Council, Brig. Gen. (Res.) Jacob Nagel, would also arrive in Washington on Sunday to meet with White House officials to advance finalizing the US’s military aid package for Israel.

The current aid package, worth $3.0 billion per year, expires in 2018. Israel and the US have been negotiating over the terms of the new package for months. [ Source ]
