(Worthy News) - On Monday, the White House will request from the U.S. Congress an additional $8.6 billion to help cover the wall that was promised by President Donald Trump to be built along the southern border with Mexico to fight illegal immigration and drug trafficking, Reuters reported.
President Donald Trump's request was based on a 2017 plan presented by Custom and Border Protection officials at the cost of roughly $18 billion.
The White House budget proposal is six times greater than was allocated by Congress for border projects in each of the past two fiscal years.
Earlier this year, a battle between the executive branch and the legislative branch of government led to a five-week partial shutdown of the Federal government which ended in January.
