(Worthy News) – Christians were spared from a planned terrorist attack in Kenya when their Muslim neighbors stepped in on their behalf.

International Christian Concern reports that Al-Shabaab, the Islamic extremist group that roves throughout Somalia, had hatched a plot to cross the border into Kutulo, Kenya, and kill as many Christian workers as they could find at a construction site for a forthcoming hospital.

Local Muslims who caught wind of the attack beforehand rushed to the scene to warn the Christians and “confronted the gunmen who proceeded to the site,” according to north-eastern regional commissioner Mohamed Birik, allowing 20 believers to escape unharmed.

“It took true bravery to do this,” Nathan Johnson, ICC’s regional manager for Africa, told the Christian Post, adding that acts of bravery, self-sacrifice, and kindness from people of other faiths on behalf of Christians deserved to be recorded along with the acts of persecution.

In 2016, something similar occurred when Kenyan Muslims on a bus hijacked by Al-Shabab protected Christian passengers by refusing to be split into separate groups of faithful and infidel per the terrorist’s demands.

Even though over 80% of Kenya is Christian, terrorist attacks by Islamic extremist groups like Al-Shabab, such as the 2015 Garissa University College shooting that left 150 Christians dead, have placed it 40th on Open Doors USA’s list of countries where it is most difficult to be a Christian.
