(Worthy News) – Israel announced a new neighborhood in Hebron that Palestinians called a dangerous settlement and local Jews said was righting an historic injustice.

Defense Minister Naftali Bennett on Sunday said that 70 apartment units for a new Jewish neighborhood would be constructed on top of the Wholesale Market erected by Jordan in the aftermath of the 1929 Hebron massacre in which 67 Jews were killed.

The Jewish community of Hebron said the move “will restore Jewish life to Jewish property in Hebron” by “removing the land of those who were murdered from the murderous mayor of Hebron,” a restoration for which Jews have been “waiting for 90 years.”

The Hebron Municipality appealed to the international community to stop Israel from carrying out what the PLO called the “first tangible result of the US decision to legitimize colonization.”
