Boko Haram sets Nigerian town alight along with five churches

by Jordan Hilger, Worthy News Correspondent

(Worthy News) – Boko Haram militants invaded a town in northeast Nigeria on Friday, burning five churches and opening fire indiscriminately on residents, who fled into the mountains.

Nigerian security forces were forced to flee as the town of Garkida in the northeastern Adamawa state was beset by more than 100 terrorists from the West African ISIS offshoot, who rode on motorbikes and mounted gun trucks from their stronghold in the Sambisa forest.

“Garkida is currently on fire…many people have been killed and their houses covered with smoke,” one local source told TheCable.

“People ran to hide inside the mountains while they watched their houses being burnt by the insurgents,” another resident said.

Nigeria is the 12th worst place in the world to be a Christian, according to Open Doors USA’s World Watch List 2020, having seen the deaths of 6,000 Christians at the hands of Boko Haram terrorists and Muslim Fulani cattle herders since 2015 in the estimates of the Humanitarian Aid Relief Trust.
