(Worthy News) – Tensions between China and the United States are rapidly escalating into a possible trade war with Beijing and Washington accusing each other of responsibility for the coronavirus outbreak.

U.S. President Donald Trump says his a hard-fought trade deal with Communist-run China is now of secondary importance, and he threatens new tariffs on Beijing. They are part of American retaliatory measures over the pandemic infecting millions around the world.

Trump suggests that a Chinese laboratory was the source of the virus spread. He spoke when asked by media if he had seen evidence that gave him a “high degree of confidence” the virus came from the Wuhan Institute of Virology. “Yes, yes, I have,” he said, declining to give specifics.

“I can’t tell you that. I’m not allowed to tell you that.”

The Chinese state-backed Wuhan Institute of Virology has dismissed the allegations. Other U.S. officials have reportedly downplayed their likelihood. At least some experts claim the virus originated in a market selling wildlife in Wuhan and jumped from animals to people.

In response, Chinese state media demanded that the U.S. government disclose information about several alleged virus experiments and its initial reaction to the coronavirus. Confirmed cases of infection in the United States have passed 1 million, with more than 63,000 deaths, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

Globally, the coronavirus disease COVID-19 has infected about 3.2 million people and caused more than 227,000 fatalities, health officials say.
