Republican resolution challenges legitimacy of Southern Southern Poverty Law Center to provide information on hate groups

(Worthy News) – The Republican National Committee (RNC) issued a resolution Monday stating that the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) legal advocacy group has no legitimacy to provide information to government agencies about organizations it identifies as ‘hate groups,’ the Epoch Times reports. The resolution describes the SPLC as “a far-left organization with an obvious bias.”

Issued at the start of the Republican National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina on Monday, the resolution claims the SPLC “puts conservative groups or voices at risk of attack” and has mobilized people to act violently toward those it has labeled as belonging to “hate groups.”

“The SPLC is a radical organization,” the resolution attests. “The federal government should not view this organization as a legitimate foundation equipped to provide actionable information to DHS or any other government agency.”

Responding to the RNC claims in a statement shown to the Epoch Times, SPLC President Margaret Huang said the purpose of the resolution is to “excuse the Trump administration’s history of working with individuals and organizations that malign entire groups of people—including Black Lives Matter advocates, immigrants, Muslims and the LGBTQ community—with dehumanizing rhetoric,” the Epoch Times said.

The RNC and the SPLC have clashed repeatedly over the advocacy organization’s definition of a hate group. In its resolution, the Republican committee denounces the SPLC for calling the pro-family, pro-life organization The Family Research Council (FRC) a hate group and claims this label led to a shooting at the FRC building in 2012, the Epoch Times reports.
