(Worthy News) – Israel’s Ministry of Transport announced Monday that a COVID-19 screening lab is to be opened at Ben Gurion airport, to test passengers flying in and out of the country, i24 News reports. The lab will be run by the Omega Institute for Modern Learning in collaboration with Rambam Medical Center and is expected to be functioning by mid-October.

Passengers will be charged NIS 44.88 ($13.38) per standard test and results will be available within 14 hours. Fast-track testing will be available in four hours, for NIS 134.64 ($40).
Omega will set up an online system by which passengers can be book an appointment and receive a ‘medical passport’ in Hebrew, English, or any other language.

“The establishment of the corona laboratories at Ben Gurion airport is a critical step in opening the skies, Transportation Minister Miri Regev told i24 News. “We insisted that the price of the test for the passenger be cheap, accessible, and available, and I am glad that the price of the test is reduced in an unprecedented way.”

“I instructed the officials of the Airports Authority to expedite as much as possible the procedures for setting up the laboratory and in the meantime, we are getting the backing from the health system. I congratulate the members of Omega for carrying out the tender quickly for the benefit of passengers,” Regev said.
