NATO Wants Monitoring of Russian Nerve Program After Dissident Poisoning

(Worthy News) – The NATO military alliance demands that Russia reveals its Novichok nerve agent program to international monitors, after the poisoning of activist Alexei Navalny.

Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said member states were all condemning the “horrific” attack that left the activist in a coma.

But in a controversial move, U.S. President Donald Trump refused to condemn Russia over the poisoning of the 44-year old opposition figure.

While calling the case “tragic,” Trump cautioned that he had not yet seen “proof” of the alleged Russian involvement in the poisoning.

He urged reporters to focus on China, which he stressed was a more significant threat to the world than Russia instead.

However, NATO and Germany said there is “proof beyond doubt” that Navalny was attacked with a Novichok nerve agent.

Last month, Navalny was rushed from Russia to the prestigious Charite hospital in the German capital Berlin.

Two years ago, the same facility successfully treated another Russian dissident who was allegedly poisoned by Russian security agents.
