(Worthy News) – Responding to Israel’s recent announcement that it will strike Iran’s nuclear program on its own if the world does nothing, Iranian Defense Minister Amir Hatami said Sunday that his country would “raze Tel Aviv and Haifa to the ground” if Israel should attack, the Times of Israel reports.

Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz said during an interview with Fox News Thursday that Israel is updating plans for a possible military strike against Iran’s nuclear program. “If the world stops them [Iran] before, it’s much the better,” Gantz said. “But if not, we must stand independently and we must defend ourselves by ourselves.”

In regard to the world stopping Iran’s advancement toward a nuclear weapon, France and Germany, among other parties to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) Iran deal, have been working to save the accord, the Times of Israel reports.

While the Trump administration withdrew the US from the JCPOA in 2018, Biden has said he is willing to revive the deal – provided the Iranians first commit to their nuclear obligations under the agreement. Iran, on the other hand, says Washington must take the first step and lift the sanctions against it, the Times of Israel reports.

In warning Israel against taking any action against Iran on its own, the Iranian defense minister said in a statement: “Sometimes, the Zionist regime [Israel] out of desperation makes big claims against the Islamic Republic of Iran to allegedly threaten it. It must know that if it does a damn thing, we will raze Tel Aviv and Haifa to the ground.”
