Nigeria killing fields for Christians: Fulani Islamic militants attack funeral of youth they murdered day before

(Worthy News) – As rights groups continue to warn of a genocide against Christians in Nigeria, on July 28 Fulani Islamic Militants in Plateau State attacked the funeral of Celina Ishaku’s son, a youth whom they had murdered the day before and whose father they killed two years ago, International Chrisitan Concern reports. Fulani militants have killed most of the 3,460 Christians who have already been slaughtered in 2021.

The attack on the funeral took place on July 28 during a series of attacks at Nche-Tahu and Zanwra villages in Plateau State’s Miango District, ICC said. Fulani militants destroyed over 30 farmlands, burned down 10 houses, and stole over 100 farm animals and other property in those raids. In a statement to ICC, Ms. Ishaku said: “Fulani (militants) killed my husband two years ago and burned down my house. My farm was destroyed three days ago, now my son is killed, and my house burned down again

Nuhu Nga, the Publicity Secretary of the Miango Youth Development Association added in a separate statement: “Sadly, we lost 3 vibrant and enterprising youths to Fulani militia attacks and ambushes at Zagwra amidst destruction of many farms crops. From all indications, the enemy won’t stop.”

Although the Nigerian government, led by Fulani President Muhammadu Buhari, routinely says the conflict between Christian farmers and Fulani herdsmen is simply a fight over land, it has become clear that many believers are being murdered by Islamic militants because of their faith, ICC said in its report. Fulani Militant groups are now more dangerous for Nigerian Christians than even Boko Haram, ICC noted.

Calling for prayer, ICC said in its report: “Please pray for Christian communities around Nigeria that are suffering from the devastation of militant groups intent on driving them from their ancestral lands. Whether Boko Haram, Islamic State, or Fulani militants, the harm caused by religious violence in Nigeria is massive and victims of these groups need your prayers.”
