Australia: Surveillance bill that gives authorities unprecedented powers comes into law

(Worthy News) – A new bill that is posed to give law enforcement unprecedented powers to “identify and disrupt serious criminal activity occurring online” has passed through both houses within 24 hours on August 26, 2021.
This is despite some lawyers and information security experts calling foul over a ‘dangerous and overreaching policy’ that didn’t take on board key recommendations from the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Intelligence and Security.
The Surveillance Legislation Amendment (Identify and Disrupt) Bill 2020 introduces three powers that will substantially boost the capacity of law enforcement agencies. [ Source: Market Herald (Read More…) ]
