(Worthy News) – While in grave danger under the new rule of the Taliban in Afghanistan, the Afghan church is understood to be standing firm in the faith and hopeful for spiritual revival in their country, Global Catalytic Ministries (GCM) has reported on its Facebook page. GCM is a Christian organization dedicated to “Discipling Muslims in Restricted-Access Nations to Jesus Christ,” and is in close contact with the underground church in Afghanistan.

In a series of recent posts, GCM highlighted the current mood in the Afghan church, which has always faced persecution but is now faces severe danger of abduction, torture, and death at the hands of the Islamic extremist Taliban. In particular, GCM reported, believers are meeting and worshipping together.

“Today I went to see many of the people that were in my group and we had a great prayer time together. We talked, and we were of one spirit together. We worshiped together,” an underground church leader told GCM. “We all found hope. I told everyone that all of you are praying for them. We all surrendered our fate to God.”

Moreover, an underground church leader told GCM, the recent upheaval and US withdrawal from Afghanistan has created an opportunity for the Gospel to be received. “[I have] a lot of excitement in my heart [as] people are more open now. I ask that believers all over the world will pray for the work of God to continue.”

Believers’ approach to the Taliban has also been Christ-centered. One believer told GCM they are hopeful for the Taliban because the world’s attention is on them and many people are praying for them. “ I am hopeful about [the Taliban],” the believer told GCM. “I’m praying for dreams and visions from Jesus for them to look to Him, and now they are among us and there will be good things coming from that.”
