(Worthy News) – A church elder was murdered, a pregnant woman wounded, and a home burned down in continued attacks against Christians in northern Nigeria by radicalized Fulani Islamic herdsmen earlier this month, Morning Star News reports. Nigeria had the highest number of Christians murdered for their faith last year, and ranks number one in the world for the number of Christians abducted by Islamic terrorists.

On December 3 Fulani militants attacked the predominantly Christian village, of Unguwar Gimbiya and murdered an elder of the local church, MSN said. Area resident Barnabas Yohanna told MSN: “My church elder was killed on the night of Friday, Dec. 3, by herdsmen terrorists. He was murdered in cold blood by terrorists who raided Ungwar Gimbiya. Fifty other Christians were kidnapped.”

On December 11, a pregnant Christian woman sustained gunshot wounds during a series of attacks by Fulani on Christian villages near the city of Kaduna, MSN reports. “The herdsmen tried to capture a Christian pregnant woman and her in-law, but the military rescued them,” area resident Agwam Adams told MSN. “The woman sustained gunshot wounds on her leg. The attack in Sabo GRA is a serious one, but thank God for the prompt intervention from the Nigerian army.”

In a statement about a distress call to Kaduna Police Command, police spokesman Mohammed Jalige said SABO GRA had been besieged by some 30 armed attackers. “The criminals on sensing the presence of security agents started shooting indiscriminately. The operatives did not hesitate in returning fire for fire and succeeded in foiling the attempt.”

Since 2015, Nigeria has seen the murders of nearly 12,000 Christians as Fulani radicals, Boko Haram and ISIS West Africa continue a campaign of murder, abduction, and displacement in their efforts to impose Sharia law on the country. “I’m truly angry about the state of insecurity in Kaduna state,” area resident Dorcas Alex told MSN. “Christians are no longer safe. We are traumatized by the incessant attacks on our people by these herdsmen.”
