(Worthy News) – The Satanic Temple (TST) has announced that its upcoming ‘SatanCon 2023’ convention in Boston, Massachusetts will be the “largest Satanic gathering in history.”

Despite its name, TST describes itself as a “non-theistic religious organization” that does not believe in Satan; the group advocates for secularism and is based in Salem, Massachusetts.

According to the TST website and social media posts, SatanCon 23 will take place on April 28-30. The event has been heralded as “a weekend of blasphemy and remembrance in Boston;” its theme is “Witches Night.”

While the convention appears to be a celebration of TST’s 10th anniversary, it is also being promoted as a sarcastic “thank you” to Boston Mayor Michelle Wu for “her unconstitutional efforts to keep TST out of Boston’s public spaces” and her “commitment” to championing religious discrimination in Boston.”

The reference to Wu follows a request by TST to fly a Satanic flag over Boston City Hall after the US Supreme Court ruled in May that the city had infringed the free speech rights of a conservative activist by refusing to fly a Christian flag at his request. The Christian flag was subsequently briefly flown, but Wu’s office gave no response to TST’s request except to say the city is reviewing its flag policy.

TST co-founder Lucien Greaves said in a statement last year that the request to fly a flag at Boston City Hall was made to promote respect for “all forms” of religious belief.
