(Worthy News) – Although the US Supreme Court revoked a federal right to abortion last year, thousands of people nevertheless flocked to Washington DC, Friday to participate in the 50th annual March For Life rally, Christian Headlines (CH) reports. This major annual event is organized by the March for Life Education and Defense Fund.

Held every year on or around the anniversary of Roe v Wade, the now-overturned 1973 US Supreme Court case which had legalized abortion up to viability, the March for Life in DC is a protest against the practice and legality of abortion anywhere in America.

“The March for Life is an inspiring, peaceful, vibrant, and joy-filled rally of women, men, young people, and children from all across the country,” the event website explains. “It’s the largest annual human rights demonstration in the world. We celebrate each and every life, from the moment of conception. We envision a world where every life is celebrated, valued, and protected.”

Friday’s rally was the first March for Life to take place following the controversial reversal of Roe v Wade by the current US Supreme Court in June last year. Accordingly, the theme for this year’s march was “Next Steps: Marching Forward into a Post-Roe America,” CH reports.

In a statement about the role of the event in the context of a post-Roe America, March For Life President Jeanna Mancini said: “We’re not yet done. While this year marks our most significant victory, the human rights abuse of abortion is far from over.” “ “Sadly, this year alone in the United States, there will be well over 700,000 abortions, and we know that in every abortion, one life is taken, and at least one life is wounded,” Mancini continued. “We will march until abortion is unthinkable,” she said.
