(Worthy News) – A young woman in eastern Uganda was beaten to death by her Muslim husband on July 9, because he discovered she had accepted Christ as her Savior earlier the same day, Morning Star News (MSN) reports. While Christianity is legal in Uganda, former Muslims who put their faith in Christ have been increasingly violently attacked by Islamic relatives and neighbors, enraged that they have left Islam.

Amina Nanfuka, 31, accepted Christ after traveling from her home in Bugiri town, Bugiri District, to Kampala for a medical issue, MSN reports. While in Kampala for 10 days, Amina stayed with a relative who had accepted Christ in 2021. This relative shared the Gospel with Amina. “I shared the saving power of Jesus, and she showed a desire to accept and to believe in Jesus,” the relative, whose name is withheld for security reasons, told MSN.

The next day, on July 9, the relative took Amina to church, where she met with the pastor and put her faith in Jesus, MSN reports. The pastor gave Amina a Bible in the Luganda language, and this action was seen by a business associate of her husband’s who promptly told her spouse. Her relative then accompanied her home.

When Amina arrived home with her relative that evening, her husband questioned her about the Bible, and then attacked her, MSN reports. The assault terrified Amina’s relative, who ran out of the house for help. When her relative and the neighbors saw the husband leave the house, they found Amina left for dead in the bedroom. “We then went inside the bedroom and found her unconscious with blood coming out of her mouth,” the relative said. “She was rushed to a nearby clinic in Bugiri, but soon the doctor pronounced her dead upon arrival. She was strangled and hit with an object around her mouth.”

“The killing was the latest of many instances of persecution of Christians in Uganda that Morning Star News has documented,” MSN noted in its report.
