(Worthy News) – Through an open letter on its website, the White House called on Congress to take action in funding the war in Ukraine, cautioning that funds would be depleted by the end of the year.  However, Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) said any funding of the Ukraine War was ultimately tied to securing the United States’ border.

The open letter conveyed the White House’s acknowledgment of the “acute urgency” of the global fight for freedom in the ongoing war. It cautioned against the repercussions of failure, emphasizing that neglecting historical lessons would result in the triumph of Putin and autocracy.

The White House warned that without Congressional action, the war funding in Ukraine would dry up by the end of the year and that they would no longer be able to “procure more weapons and equipment” for Ukraine and provide military equipment needed for victory.

The White House warned of Ukraine’s critical situation, stating that there is a simultaneous shortage of funds and time, stressing that Congress take immediate action.

In response, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA) stated on X, “The Biden Administration has failed to substantively address any of my conference’s legitimate concerns about the lack of a clear strategy in Ukraine, a path to resolving the conflict, or a plan for adequately ensuring accountability for aid provided by American taxpayers. Meanwhile, the Administration is continually ignoring the catastrophe at our own border.”

He said, “House Republicans have resolved that any national security supplemental package must begin with our own border. We believe both issues can be agreed upon if Senate Democrats and the White House will negotiate reasonably.”
