(Worthy News) – A US military veteran who was shot in the head while street preaching in Arizona last month is making such remarkable steps toward recovery that his wife has described them as “miracles,” CBN News reports.

A 26-year-old father of two and the outreach director at Victory Chapel First Phoenix, Hans Schmidt was critically wounded as he shared the Gospel through a loudspeaker on a street corner in Glendale, Arizona on Nov. 15. The assailant was not known to him and police launched an immediate investigation.

Upon his admission to hospital with life threatening injuries, Schmidt’s doctors had little confidence that he would survive the bullet lodged in his head, his wife Zulya told CBN News. “They were like, ‘Yeah, no one’s going to touch it. No neurosurgeons; it’s just not operable, and then even just hearing the detective say, ‘We’ll know more after the autopsy.’”

However, Schmidt has been making outstanding progress, giving cause for hope. “Every day we’ve been able to witness a miracle,” Zulya told CBN News. “We’re hopeful, and we’re praying, and we’re contending for a supernatural recovery,” Zulya said. “But there’s just so much unknown still, so much uncertainty.”

In a recent social media post, Zulya wrote: “God is moving. He has been with us every step of the way. We are still believing and contending for a supernatural recovery. The fact [Hans] is here is a miracle in itself. Hans is fighting and working really hard every day. Your prayers are not in vain.”
