JERUSALEM/CAIRO (Worthy News) – The United States military fired another wave of ship- and submarine-launch missile strikes against Houthi-controlled sites on Wednesday, the U.S. Central Command said, as the Israel-Hamas rapidly engulfes the Middle East.

The attack marked marking the fourth time in days the U.S. directly hit the Yemen-based rebels.

The strikes were launched from the Red Sea and hit 14 missiles the command deemed an “imminent threat.” There were no reports of casualties. Wednesday’s attacks came after earlier in the day, Washington returned the Houthis to its list of terrorist groups.

The “Specially Designated Global Terrorist” (SDGT) designation hits the Iran-aligned Houthis with harsh sanctions. Officials said the move is aimed at cutting off funding and weapons the Houthis have used to attack or hijack ships in vital Red Sea shipping lanes.

The Houthis’ campaign disrupted global commerce, stoking fears of inflation and deepening concern that fallout from the Israel-Hamas war could destabilize the Middle East and the rest of the world.

However, there were concerns that the attacks could impact the impoverished population of war-torn Yemen.

President Joe Biden’s administration quickly announced “carve-outs” to avoid impacting Yemen’s population, which relies on food imports and humanitarian aid.

The administration pledged to conduct outreach to groups, including aid agencies before the Houthis terrorist designation occurs in 30 days.

The Houthis say their attacks are in response to Israel’s military actions against Hamas, the Iran-backed group responsible for the October 7 massacre in Israel in which some 1,200 people were killed and up to 250 others taken hostage.
