TEHRAN/THE HAGUE (Worthy News) – The Netherlands said Friday it had summoned Iran’s ambassador after an Iranian strike in neighboring Iraq killed a Dutch infant and her father while injuring her mother and brother.

Outgoing Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs Hanke Bruins Slot said she was shocked about the killing of the 11-month-old baby and her father, a Kurdish businessman named Peshraw Dizayee.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards on Monday launched ballistic missiles at what it said was the regional headquarters for Israel’s intelligence agency Mossad in Erbil, located in semi-autonomous Kurdistan in northern Iraq.

Tehran said the strikes also targeted “anti-Iran terror groups” in Syria, in the latest escalation of hostilities that analysts say further risks spiraling into a broader armed conflict in the Middle East and beyond.

The United States condemned the attacks as “reckless” and imprecise.

Kurdish media reported that most of the victims in Erbil were Dutch nationals. Still, Bruins Slot only confirmed there were “two injured people with Dutch nationality” and expressed her “horror” about the death of the baby.

In a statement, Bruins Slot said she “summoned the ambassador of Iran” to get a “clarification from Iran.”

‘INSUFFICIENT ANSWERS’

However, “I just find the answers received so far insufficient, so I expect that more information will come,” she added.

Bruins Slot said she would not cut off diplomatic ties with Iran yet as that would mean “the communication channels with the country will also be closed.”

She pledged to continue trying “to get the Iranian Revolutionary Guards on the terrorist list.”

She says she will continue to try to get the Iranian Revolutionary Guards on the terrorist list. Yet Bruins Slot said she didn’t favor cutting diplomatic ties with Iran as “this would also close the communication channels with the country.”

Tehran’s alleged strikes on an Israeli spy base came shortly before Israel’s prime minister publicly suggested that Israel is attacking Iran to prevent it from obtaining nuclear weapons and carrying out attacks.

Benjamin Netanyahu said Thursday about potential Israeli military action against Iran: “Who said we aren’t attacking Iran? It is the head of the octopus…imagine what Iran could do across the Middle East, take it over and cause its collapse.”

He has accused Iran of openly supporting several groups that Israel regards as terrorist organizations, including Hamas in Gaza, Lebanon-based Hezbollah, the Houthis in wartorn Yemen, and other militia.
