UK Sees Thousands Of Antisemitic Incidents Since Oct. 7 Hamas Attack On Israel, Report

(Worthy News) – The United Kingdom saw an unprecedented surge in antisemitism following the Oct. 7 genocidal attack on Israel by Hamas, with thousands of antisemitic incidents recorded since then, the Times of Israel (TOI) reports.

On Oct. 7 Hamas broke a ceasefire with Israel and murdered around 1,200 mostly
civilian Israelis, including women, children, babies and senior citizens, and abducted around 240 more. This event triggered a worldwide wave of antisemitism and anti-Israel protests, well before Israel’s ground incursion into Gaza to destroy Hamas’ military capabilities. The UK saw hundreds of thousands of people marching through London and other major cities in repeated mass protests condemning Israel.

An organization which advises Britain’s estimated 280,000 Jews on security issues, the UK’s Community Security Trust (CST) said in a new report that 2023 was the worst year for antisemitism in the UK since the organization began keeping records in 1984, TOI reports.

According to the CST, there were 4,103 antisemitic incidents in Britain last year, double the amount from 2022. The incidents included threats, hate speech, violence and damage to Jewish institutions and property, TOI said.

“The record total of antisemitic hate in 2023 is due entirely to the surge in incidents following the 7 October Hamas terrorist attack on Israel, and the scale of the increase is unprecedented,” the CST said in a statement.

“British Jews are strong and resilient, but the explosion in hatred against our community is an absolute disgrace,” CST chief executive Mark Gardner said. “This is a challenge for everyone and we condemn the stony silence from those sections of society that eagerly call out racism in every other case, except when it comes to Jew hate.”
