(Worthy News) – As thousands of Muslims gathered at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in Jerusalem’s Old City for prayers on the first night of Ramadan, a video shared on social media depicts Israeli Border Police officers using batons against worshippers at the entrance of the Haram al-Sharif sacred area, also referred to by Jews as the Temple Mount.

Reacting to the video, Israel Police stated their commitment to “enable freedom of worship on the Temple Mount while at the same time ensuring safety and security, in accordance with instructions given by the political leadership.”

In the densely packed streets of Jerusalem’s Old City, thousands of police officers are stationed in anticipation of the daily influx of tens of thousands of worshippers at the contentious Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, Islam’s third most sacred site. This compound is located on Temple Mount, Judaism’s most holy site, which is traditionally believed to be where the two biblical temples were situated.

Photos and videos shared on X tonight capture scenes of young Muslim men denied entry to the Al-Aqsa compound, offering prayers in the streets leading up to it and just outside the Old City’s walls.

Israeli Police Commissioner Kobi Shabtai intends to restrict attendance during the early phase of Ramadan, and pointed out that young Arabs from Israel and East Jerusalem are the primary “agitators” and argued they should be barred.

Last week, two terrorist organizations, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad and Hamas,  called for Ramadan to be a “month of terror,” calling for the “continuation of the Battle of al-Aqsa” as they called for a jihad war against Israel.
