(Worthy News) – Christians across Africa are increasingly subject to deadly violence at the hands of Islamic terrorists and, on Apr. 9, suspected Al-Shabaab members murdered two Christians and wounded others in two attacks in Lamu West, Kenya, International Christian Concern (ICC) reports.

On the morning of Tuesday Apr. 9, jihadist terrorists murdered a farmer in Hindi, a Christian village in Lamu West that was attacked by Al-Shabaab in 2022, ICC reports. Later that day, terrorists blocked a road between Mpeketoni and Hindi and fired at two Christian travelers, killing one and wounding two others.

Associated with Al-Qaeda, Al-Shabaab is a Sunni Islamic terror group that is based in Somalia but which carries out regular jihadist attacks in neighboring Kenya.

In a statement, one of the Christians who survived the road attack said the terrorists ordered him to recite the Shahada Islamic prayer to see if he is a Muslim. The Christian was released after he lied, saying he had just recently converted to Islam and was not yet familiar with the prayer, ICC said.

“Al-Shabab is known to have crossed into Kenya and made people recite the Shahada to determine if they are Muslim,” ICC noted in its report. “Those who do not recite it are considered Christians and are often beaten or killed.”

A local ICC staffer reported concerning the Lamu West attacks: “We have mobilized our prayer cells to pray that Lamu doesn’t continue to experience this hatred by the Somalia-based terror group that has crippled church growth and the economy of the residents of Lamu. We are requesting our brothers and sisters all over the world to join us in prayer against terrorism and persecution of believers in Lamu.”
