U.S. Military Chief Doubts Ability to Support Israel in Conflict with Hezbollah

(Worthy News) – On Monday, Charles Q. Brown, head of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, cautioned that the U.S. might not be able to assist Israel in an all-out war with Hezbollah as it did during the drone attack by Iran in April.

The US Air Force General highlighted the challenges of intercepting the short-range rockets that Hezbollah fires into Israel from across the border, indicating a potentially reduced capacity for assistance in any escalated conflict.

Brown warned that a conflict with Hezbollah could likely involve Iran, noting that Iran “would be more inclined to support Hezbollah.” He detailed that while Iran also supports Hamas, its support for Hezbollah would be more substantial, especially “particularly if they felt that Hezbollah was being significantly threatened.”

Brown’s remarks were part of a broader effort by U.S. officials, through both explicit statements and anonymous leaks, to urge Israel to de-escalate and avoid escalating into a larger operation or conflict with Hezbollah.

Nevertheless, thousands of fighters from Iran-backed terror groups across the Middle East are prepared to enter Lebanon and join forces with Lebanon’s Hezbollah if the escalating conflict with Israel turns into a full-scale war, Worthy News reported earlier today.

Meanwhile, in Washington DC on Monday, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant met with US envoy on Lebanon Amos Hochstein to discuss “what actions are required in order to reach a situation which allows the northern residents to return to their homes.”

During the meeting, Gallant emphasized Israel’s commitment to improving the security situation in the border region with Hezbollah.

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu said on Channel 14 Sunday night that Israel is open to a diplomatic resolution to the Hezbollah threat but emphasized, “It must be on our terms.”

“We will do what is necessary,” he stated. “I can assure the citizens of Israel that if we are required to take on this challenge, we will do it. We can fight on several fronts, and we are also preparing for it.”

Hezbollah’s attacks along the Israel-Lebanon border breached U.N. Security Council Resolution 1701. This resolution restricts the presence of armed personnel, assets, and weapons in the demilitarized zone stretching from south of the Litani River to the Blue Line border with Israel, permitting only U.N. peacekeeping forces and the Lebanese government to maintain security there.

Both the United States and Israel recognize Hezbollah as an Iranian-backed terrorist organization based in Lebanon.
