(Worthy News) – Russia may start supplying Yemen’s jihadist Houthi terror group with anti-ship missiles to punish the United States for helping Ukraine resist the ongoing Russian invasion, the Wall Street Journal reported exclusively on Friday (July 19).

The Yemenite Houthi rebel group is supported for the most part by Iran’s Shia Islamic regime. In the immediate aftermath of the Oct. 7 Hamas attack on Israel, the Houthis declared they were joining the Palestinian terror group’s war on the Jewish state. Since Oct. 7, the Houthis have fired missiles at Israeli, US, and UK-affiliated ships in the Red Sea and have fired missiles at Israel itself.

Saudi Arabia recently sought to dissuade Russia from bolstering Houthi weaponry, the Times of Israel notes. However, two US officials cited by the WSJ told the Journal that Russia’s President Vladimir Putin is again considering supplying the Houthis with weapons.

The WSJ sources said Moscow is considering this action because the Biden Administration allowed Ukraine to use US-made weapons in attacks on targets inside Russia.

The US officials told the WSJ that Russia has not yet sent weapons to the Houthis but that representatives of the Yemeni group had visited Moscow. The officials noted that Russia could smuggle missiles to Yemen through Iranian smuggling routes.
