(Worthy News) – An estimated half a million people took to the streets of Tel Aviv, Israel on Saturday night, demanding that the Israeli government agree to a ceasefire deal with Hamas that would ensure the return of 101 hostages taken to Gaza during the October 7, 2023 attack, MediaLine reports.

The protest was organized by the Hostage Families Forum, an Israeli “civil, volunteer-based organization focused on the safe return of all Israeli citizens held hostage by the terrorist organization Hamas.”

Saturday’s was the largest yet of ongoing tumultuous protests by Israelis anxious that, following the recent murders of six hostages, their government has prioritized a continuation of the war against Hamas in Gaza over the return of those held captive for more than 11 months now, MediaLine noted.

“The protests were fueled by anger over the recent execution of six hostages by Hamas, who might have been freed in a proposed exchange, as well as the approaching one-year anniversary of the October 7 attack in which 1,200 people were killed, and about 250 hostages were taken into Gaza,” MediaLine explains in its report.

“Despite the government’s ongoing refusal to make concessions, demonstrators called on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to negotiate a deal with Hamas to secure the release of the remaining 101 hostages. Netanyahu’s insistence on maintaining Israel’s military presence on the Philadelphi Corridor, along the Gaza-Egypt border, has been a major sticking point in negotiations,” MediaLine added.

Although police have not confirmed the figure, a reported 250,000 people gathered in simultaneous protests in other major cities including Jerusalem, Haifa, Rishon Lezion, Beersheba, and Netanya, MediaLine said.
